Corona online test requirements and to do

Bangladesh has faced many natural disasters in its 50 years of existence. Honestly, Bangladesh has to deal with natural disasters all the time. Floods, storms, tidal surges are our daily natural disasters. But Bangladesh has never had a disaster in education. In the current situation of Corona after 50 years of independence, the sector that has suffered the most is education in the country. At the root of this situation was an unexpected coronavirus. And there was no way to stop this infection except to close schools, colleges, universities. All educational institutions in the country have been closed for about 18 months. The issue is making all the education researchers, policymakers, parents, and students think. However, such a situation in education is now not only in Bangladesh but for the entire world. Therefore, like the developed world, Bangladesh must now focus on conducting all educational activities, including teaching and taking exams in online education.

Before teaching online, we need to understand what online learning activities mean. How challenging it is for a country like ours to conduct these online education activities. What is online education first? In fact, we can call distance learning through the internet online education. Academically, such activities in English fall into the category of distance education or distance learning activities. Online education helps students to conduct all educational activities at home through an internet connection on devices like computers, smartphones, smart TVs, etc. Although it may seem primitive, online education with these devices is quite new for our country. Our student-teachers may not perform lessons with these. In fact, online teaching is not so challenging at all. And to be clear, distance learning activities are not new to our country.

Bangladesh Open University was established over two decades ago. The university has been playing a significant role in conducting activities through distance learning for the country. Many disadvantaged meritorious students have fulfilled their degree dreams through the university. The subject is introduced because such distance learning or concept is not new to us at all; Rather established. What we need to do now is to include this activity in the regular teaching of secondary, higher secondary, and university. Secondary and higher secondary boards need to be included in this work. Regular academic activities, including university admission tests — everything can be done through this online education. One thing needs to be mentioned here, how is it possible to include online education at all levels of the country? It does not complicate the matter at all. The number of internet users in the country is now over nine crores. Almost everyone has a smartphone. Today, mobile and internet have reached far and wide of the village. With all the state media radio-television including electricity guarantee. I fully prepared Bangladesh to enter the era of online education.

Note that one challenge Bangladesh faces in conducting online education activities is how to take exams with such many students, how to evaluate their answer sheets digitally? If students can’t come for exams, then how will the school college do the job? These are some challenges in the education system of the Corona period. What we can do here is to first change the method of secondary or higher secondary examination. Earlier 100 marks written test was done. Now there are written assignments at number 50 and VIVA at number 50. It is possible to take Viva easily using several tools of Bangladesh, including Zoom, Google Meet.

There will be questions from written assignments during Vivar. Students can submit assignments online or go to their own school and submit them to the designated class teacher. Later, the head teacher will send them to the board of education. Students will not only take the comprehensive exam for secondary and higher secondary, but also the oral comprehensive exam. Similarly, university admission tests can also be done with written assignments and Viva. In this, meritorious students will get a proper evaluation of their merit while sitting at home. And for those students who can’t get internet service, there should be an alternative system. School-college head teachers need to make a list of disadvantaged people. Then only those students will come to the designated center to take the test according to the special hygiene rules.

Here, teachers must be trained on how to conduct online learning activities. Everything from class lessons to write assignment assessment and how to take Viva will fall into the teacher training phase. Across the country, it can deliver education in the fastest time using more education technology including Zoom, Google Meet. The initial preparation will be, how to take the high school exam quickly at present.

Training through technology is much easier. Teachers can take their necessary training at home or on the mobile. Besides, state and private media will play a role in creating attitudes in students’ online activities. How to take part in the lesson, how to evaluate the students, and above all the challenges that the students may face, will be discussed in the campaign. Not only the education board and the ministry have to make preparations, but also the students and teachers have to come forward spontaneously with necessary steps to deal with this education disaster in the country.

Education is called the backbone of the nation. Because education has to do with the socio-economic condition of the country and the nation. Any development and refinement in this sector will play a role in human resource development for Bangladesh. In the current Corona disaster situation in Bangladesh, it is very necessary to refine the education sector. That change will be to take online education to everyone. In this age of globalization, Bangladesh will cope with the education crisis by changing the examination system and teaching activities.

In the words of Rabindranath Tagore, ‘the mind is as fearless as the head, knowledge is as free as the wall of the house. We have to look at the present in the ideal of free knowledge. We need to improve change, take steps for the welfare of the people, and gross education. In that case, of course, in the current context, there is no alternative to formatting online education activities at all levels.
